Be clear about your goals
Most people have a goal in mind when they decide to start their own business. And it’s often that goal that gets them through the set-up phase. Here are some thoughts to help you pinpoint the catalyst for your future success:
- To make money
- To be my own boss
- To satisfy my personal ambition
- To spend more time with my children
- To do something I love
- To share my great idea with the world
- To work from home.
Make sure you record your goal so you stay focused, and review it regularly. If you feel it needs to change, then change it.
Know your strengths – and weaknesses
There’s no single list of attributes that people must have in order to succeed in their own business. Equally it’s sensible to recognise any weaknesses you may have so that they don’t get in the way of success.
Test yourself against the statements below, and ask your friends and family to do the same. If the answer is NO to some that may be important to your business, try to work on them.
