Glossary
Here are some definitions of useful terminology you may hear.
MBO - Management Buy-Out – A situation where existing managers in a business, buy out some or all of the previous owners. This can be to enable retirement or succession planning or to take a business private or out of a larger business.

MBI - Management Buy-In – A situation where new managers buy into the business.

BIMBO – Buy-In Management Buy-Out - A situation where there is a combination of new and existing management.

Expansion/Development Capital – Where additional funding is provided to enable a business to grow, including to fund acquisitions. This may be provided where there is no or some change in management.

Equity Release – Where existing owners wish to release some or all of their accumulated share of business value, which can be facilitated as a result of MBO, MBI or BIMBO, with or without an element of Expansion/Development Capital.
