Rules

1. Barclays Trading Places is open to sole traders, partnerships and companies who are currently trading (and have been for a minimum of three months and a maximum of three years, with an annual turnover of less than £1 million) and who are domiciled (and in the case of companies also registered) in the UK, Isle of Man, the Channel Islands or Ireland. Your Business must have the majority of shares held in private ownership. Entries will only be accepted if the business or sole trader is less than three years old on Monday 30 March 2009. Businesses which are wholly or partly managed by employees of any of the parties listed at Rule 10 are not eligible to enter.

2. Only one entry per business is permitted and all entries must be accompanied by the official entry form signed by an accredited representative of the business. Entrants must supply any additional financial or other information requested, which may include audited accounts and/or a bank reference. Entrants consent to disclosure of any relevant information provided by them to any party involved in assessing their entry. Entries from previous National Finalists will not be considered for the 2009 competition.

3. The closing date for entries to be received at the Barclays Trading Places Awards, PO BOX 42977, LONDON SW12 9ZA is Friday 22 May 2009. Proof of postage will not be accepted as proof of receipt and no responsibility will be taken by any of the parties listed in Rule 10 for entries lost, damaged or delayed in the post. Damaged or defaced entries will be disqualified. All entries will be available for collection from the Awards Office from Friday 30 October 2009. All entries not collected by Friday 27 November 2009 will be destroyed.

4. The prizes will be in UK Sterling or, for Ireland, Euro equivalent. See full details of the prizes. No cash alternatives or variations are offered and prizes are not transferable. All cash prizes are for the benefit of the business and will be in the form of a cheque made payable to the winners’ business account. Return standard rail travel and over-night three-star accommodation will be offered to one representative of each National Finalist business to attend the Barclays Trading Places Awards Dinner in London on Tuesday 13 October 2009.

5. A panel will select a National Shortlist (all of whom will be notified by post) from which 11 National Finalists will be chosen. All National Finalists will be required to attend a judging session in London in early October 2009 to determine the winners of Triumph over Disability Award, Success after Unemployment Award, Spirit of Inspiration Award and the Barclays Trading Places Award 2009.  No alternative date can be offered. Return standard rail travel will be offered to two representatives of each National Finalist business to attend the judging.

6. The decision of the judging panel is final in respect of all matters concerning these Awards, including the interpretation of these rules and no correspondence will be entered into.

7. The names and postal districts/counties of the National Finalists, together with a list of judges, will be available from Barclays Trading Places, PO BOX 42977, LONDON SW12 9ZA after Monday 7 September 2009. Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope.

8. The parties listed in Rule 10 reserve the right to feature the names and postal districts/counties of all entrants in future promotions and all entrants agree to participate without payment in any publicity surrounding Barclays Trading Places which may or may not be published or broadcast as a result.

9. All entries, details contained within all entries and details later submitted to us in connection with or in support of such entries, including but not limited to all personal details provided, may be reproduced and used by Aspect Communications Group Limited and the sponsors listed in Rule 10 below in any manner and in any medium and format chosen (including but not limited to use on a website, any business, promotional and marketing material relating to the Barclays Trading Places Awards) including any reproduction and adaptations thereof without further consent. Any such use shall be within the sole discretion of Aspect Communications Group Limited and the sponsors.

10. The promoter of Barclays Trading Places is Aspect Communications Group Limited, Stable Yard, 16 Balham Hill, London SW12 9EB. The sponsor is Barclays Bank PLC and Trading Places is presented in association with Jobcentre Plus, BERR, The Prince’s Trust, the NFEA and Leonard Cheshire Disability.  The awards supporter is Microsoft and our media partner is The Sun.
